I've decided to make this a year of seriously organized and frequent submissions. I've been lazing about too much on the whole writing thing, so it's time for shit to get real as all the kids are saying these days. In particular, I've come to grips with the fact that a potentially paying deadline is still on of the best writing prompts the world has to offer. As such, this is going to be my year of anthology submissions.
I start off 2013 with a 4 pieces out for submission (including one sent out yesterday). These range from a short humor piece to a bizarro novella with a couple of short stories in between. I've got 2 more on the rack being flogged in to shape and a first half of the year packed with deadlines. I like it. The goal for the year (don't call it a resolution!) is to submit a minimum of 12 pieces before 12/31/2013.
The world of self-publishing continues to intrigue, but I am planning to refrain from self-publishing anything this year. Reasons for that will be addressed in a separate post on the state of indie publishing. Though as long as we're talking about indie publishing, I'll just leave this here. Yes, it's another link to The Devil Yearns for the Perfect Denver Omelet and Other Revelations. Hey, it's only .99 cents on Kindle. $9.99 for genuine paper. Do it!
I will also be reading more aggressively this year. Last year I probably read about a dozen books. Hoping to double that in the new year. Will be reviewing some here along the way.
In short, 2013 is going to be a more productive and valuable year. Keep your eye on this space for updates, observations, rants, and screeds.
